Frequently asked questions

Thirteen short answers about Oh My Notes — floating notes, pricing, storage and privacy.

What is Oh My Notes?

Oh My Notes is a floating sticky notes app for Mac. A Today layer of notes, to-dos and reminders stays visible above your other windows — and with Pro, even above fullscreen apps and across Spaces. Every note is a plain Markdown file in a folder on your Mac. There is no account and no subscription: the free tier is free to use, and Pro is a one-time purchase.

How do I keep sticky notes above fullscreen apps on Mac?

Apple Stickies and ordinary windows are hidden when a Mac app enters fullscreen. Oh My Notes Pro pins a note so it floats above fullscreen apps and stays put across Spaces, fading to your chosen unfocused opacity (40–100%) so it never fully blocks the view. The free tier covers the edge dock and an ordinary always-on-top float. The full walkthrough: keep sticky notes above fullscreen apps on Mac.

What is unfocused opacity?

Unfocused opacity is how transparent a floating note becomes when you click somewhere else. In Oh My Notes you can set it anywhere from 40% to 100%: at 40% the note fades back so you can read the app behind it, and clicking the note brings it back to full strength. It keeps a permanently visible note from getting in the way.

What is the difference between Free and Pro?

The free tier covers the Today panel, quick capture, search, plain Markdown notes, the edge dock / ordinary always-on-top float, one-shot reminders, pinyin search, and git version history with Shortcuts. Pro ($9.99 one-time) adds floating above fullscreen & across Spaces, recurring reminders, a custom notes folder & multiple vaults, Apple Reminders & Calendar sync, and themes. There is no subscription — a Pro licence is yours for good.

How much does Pro cost?

Pro is $9.99 as a one-time purchase, and the early-bird price is $7.99 right now — waitlist members get the early-bird price. There is no subscription and nothing is charged automatically, and the licence covers all your Macs. A 14-day trial unlocks all Pro features if you want to try before buying, and there is a no-hassle refund within 14 days of purchase; final terms are shown at checkout. The current split is always on the pricing section of the homepage.

Where are my notes stored?

On your Mac, as plain .md files — by default in ~/Documents/OhMyNotes. Oh My Notes has no account and no server that stores your notes. Built-in export and import let you move notes anytime, and iCloud “Desktop & Documents” already keeps the default folder in sync across your Macs. Picking a custom notes folder or multiple vaults is part of Pro.

Does it work with Obsidian?

Yes — with Pro you can point Oh My Notes at any folder, including an Obsidian vault, and notes stay plain .md files you can open anywhere. To-dos are written as standard - [ ] checkboxes your vault can see, search and query. Nothing is locked into a private format, and there is no sync service in the middle — your folder, your sync.

Does it sync with Apple Reminders?

Apple Reminders & Calendar sync is part of Pro. Due notes sync with Apple Reminders and macOS Calendar (iCloud source, visible on iPhone), so reminders can reach your phone without a separate iOS app — an iOS companion itself is on the longer-term list. Reminders arrive as native macOS notifications, and your notes stay plain .md files either way.

Do I need an account? What about privacy?

No account. Your notes stay on your Mac as files you own, and Oh My Notes has no server that stores them. This website has no cookies, no trackers and no analytics. The only personal data we hold is the email you choose to give us for the early-access list — used for Oh My Notes updates only, unsubscribe anytime.

Which platforms does Oh My Notes support?

Oh My Notes is available today for macOS 13+ — v0.2.0 is a 7.2 MB download. A Windows version is in development and Linux will follow; there are no promised dates. There is no iPhone or iPad app yet: an iOS companion is on the longer-term list, and Apple Reminders & Calendar sync (Pro) is today’s way to get reminders on your phone.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Pro is a one-time purchase, and if it is not for you there is a no-hassle refund within 14 days of purchase; final terms are shown at checkout. Email [email protected] with any refund question and we will help. Because there is no subscription, there is nothing to cancel and nothing is charged automatically.

Which languages does Oh My Notes speak?

English, 简体中文 and 繁體中文 — the whole interface, not just the notes. Search understands pinyin, so typing something like “zwbt” can find 中文标题, and Simplified and Traditional match each other when you search. This website is trilingual too: switch with the EN / 简 / 繁 buttons in the navigation.

Will my notes show up in screen sharing or recordings?

No. By default, Oh My Notes stickers don’t appear in screen sharing, screen recordings, or screenshots on macOS — the sticker window is excluded from the standard capture path meeting apps use. Need everything gone in a second? ⌘⌥H or the tray menu hides all stickers until you bring them back. This applies to sticker windows only, and you can turn it off in Settings.
